Graduate Assistantships
- Plant Medicine Program Graduate Assistantships
Application Deadline:
- Fall semester 2009 admission - June 15, 2009
- Spring semester 2010 admission - September 15, 2009
Graduate Assistantships are available to students enrolling in the Plant Medicine Program in the form of a first year assistantship. These funds are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified incoming Doctor of Plant Medicine (DPM) students. At present, this assistantship includes a stipend and a tuition waiver for 32 graduate level credits.
DPM students have successfully funded subsequent years of their studies through research or teaching assistantships with the component departments of the Plant Medicine Program (Agronomy, Entomology/Nematology, Plant Pathology, etc.), the Clinical Trials Program, tutoring assistantships, part time jobs, low cost student loans, scholarships and fellowships (Department of Homeland Security Fellowship, USDA-National Needs Fellowship, etc.), and various combinations of these strategies.
Students who are United States citizens qualify for Florida resident status at the end of their first year in the state, provided that they take the appropriate actions as soon as they come on campus and apply for Florida residency in a timely fashion. Subsequently, as Florida residents, they qualify for the much lower in-state tuition rates.
Thanks to an agreement with the Florida State Legislature, students who are residents of Latin American and Caribbean countries can qualify for in-state tuition. Other international students wishing to enroll in the Plant Medicine Program are advised to seek financial assistance, if needed, from their government or from national and international granting organizations.
Fellowship/Assistantship Requirements
It is the policy of UF/CALS that students must keep up a 3.0 GPA ("B" average) or better in order to remain in graduate school and to maintain their assistantship or fellowship.
